Mitsu stops production of manual transmission vehicle related parts ...
I just returned from the Mitsubishi dealership I work with. Figured I'd pick up a new transmission mount for when I relocate the cross member with the NP231 conversion and someone was kind enough to put a rock into my side marker light a couple weeks ago so I needed a new lens, too. While there I received some very disheartening news.
According to the parts manager he received an email from Mitsubishi stating that they were stopping production of all manual transmission related parts for the Montero and Montero Sport. And by 'all manual transmission related parts' it means ALL. Anything on the vehicle that is specific to manual trans vehicles. This includes mechanical parts as well as trim, accessories, etc.
They have already discontinued the transmission mount - as I found out today - and that probably explains why I couldn't get a replacement transmission. Most transmission parts as well as the entire t-case have already been 'outsourced'.
Maybe the positive side of this is it will give me impetus to swap transmissions.
An interesting aside to all this is while at the machine shop last week I had the chance to compare the Muncie M22 input shaft to the Mitsubishi input shaft on my trans. We found out that the length is only different by about 1/8" at the pilot stub end and the diameters and splines are almost exactly the same. I already know I can get a disk that will fit the Mitsu pressure plate with the diameter and spline count for a Muncie M21 and M22 and the Richmond Super T10. Wonder if I could transplant a Richmond 6-speed in?? Things that make you go 'Hmmmmmmmm!' :-)
